Life is a fleeting journey; time that is woven with moments of joy, laughter, and shared experiences with our loved ones. As we go through our lives, we will inevitably think about the legacy we will leave behind. How can we ensure that our stories, wisdom, and love continue to resonate long after we are unable to tell them ourselves?

At Journey, we have been working on new avenues to help our users safekeep and record their memories. With Legacy, a new feature on Journey Cloud Sync, users have the means to allow loved ones access to their thoughts and memories. More than just a collection of memories, it is a timeless gift we can offer to those we cherish most.

Read on to find out more about this new feature and how to set it up on Journey Cloud Sync!

What is the Legacy feature?

With the Legacy feature, individuals will have the ability to share their life stories, experiences, and memories in their own words with the people they love even after they do not have the capacity to. It becomes a digital repository of their cherished thoughts, emotions, and reflections; ensuring that their memories preserved for future generations.

For loved ones, having access to their family or friend's account can provide comfort and emotional strength. Reading the words and experiences of someone they love can help them feel connected and closer to the person, fostering a sense of ongoing presence. Their Journey Cloud Sync drive may contain shared memories and stories that loved ones can revisit together, strengthening family bonds and fostering a sense of togetherness, even after the person is no longer around.

Setting up the Legacy feature can also be a way to celebrate an individual's life and achievements. It allows loved ones to reminisce about happy moments and remember the positive impact someone has had on their lives.

The Legacy feature can also be a means for Journey users to safeguard their journals and memories with the help of a trusted friend of family member, in the circumstance that they lose their passphrase and cannot access their account. They would be at least one other individual who would have their credentials, like their passphrase for an encrypted drive, or the link to download the journal archive being sent to them.

How To Set-Up Legacy on Journey Cloud Sync?

Journey users would need to set up a Journey Cloud Sync drive to be able to access this feature. After doing so, they can activate it in the settings of their Journey Cloud Sync drive.

Turn on and setup legacy in your Journey Cloud Sync drive.

Journey will then send out a confirmation for the user to verify. After successfully turning on the feature, users will have to choose either a 6-month or 12-month wait out period for their account.

Users will then be prompted to add "trustees" for their Legacy account. Users can choose up to 5 trustees to assign their account to by adding their e-mails when prompted to in the settings.

Two months prior to either of the waiting period options that the user picks, Journey will send out 3 emails at different stipulated days to the owner to verify if they are still actively using their Journey account. Activity would include actions like logging in to their account, signing out, adding entries, or any form of interaction with their Journey account or Journey Cloud Sync drive. If the owner is not active or not able to use their account any longer, or does not respond the e-mails, the Legacy process will kick in.

If you're inactive on your account, Journey will send an email to your trustees e-mails.

Journey will proceed to archive their journey account and their journals, and generate and store them in a link. This link will then be sent over to the trustees via e-mail for them to download and access by the end of either the 6 or 12-month period. At the end of the 6 or 12 months, the link of the archive sent to the trustees will expire.

The user would also need to handover their passphrase to the trustees if their drive has been encrypted. Trustees will not be notified by Journey that they have been picked to be a trustee by the owner of the Journey Cloud Sync drive. This information will remain confidential, until the owner decides to let the trustee know of their choice on their own accord and their own time. Trustees will only get an e-mail with the link to the journal archive if the owner is no longer around or can no longer actively use their Journey account.
